چکیده

We develop a constructive approach to multi-party negotiations over continuous issues. The method is intended to be used as a mediator's tool for step-by-step creation of joint gains in order to reach a Pareto-optimal agreement. During the mediation process, the parties are only required to answer relatively simple questions concerning their preferences; they do not have to reveal their utility functions completely. The method generates jointly improving directions to move along, and it is a non-trivial generalization of the recently proposed two-party methods. We give a mathematical analysis together with a numerical example, but also a practical basis for negotiation support in realworld settings. Ó 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Searching for fair joint gains in agent-based negotiation

In multi-issue negotiations, autonomous agents can act cooperatively to benefit from mutually preferred agreements. However, empirical evidence suggests that they often fail to search for joint gains and end up with inefficient results. To address this problem, this paper proposes a novel mediated negotiation procedure to support the negotiation agents in reaching an efficient and fair agreemen...

The timing and function of offers in U.S. and Japanese negotiations.

The authors examined the function of offers in U.S. and Japanese integrative negotiations. They proposed that early 1st offers begin information sharing and generate joint gains in Japan but have an anchoring effect that hinders joint gains in the United States. The data from the negotiation transcripts of 20 U.S. and 20 Japanese dyads supported 2 hypothesized interactions: Early offers generat...

A Model for Multi-party Negotiations

Our model of multi-party negotiations is a many parties, many issues model. The whole multi-party negotiation consists of a set of mutually influencing bilateral negotiations that are focused on different bilateral issues. We propose to use majority rule to help parties reach group agreements. When a party is not satisfied with another party’s negotiation progress, he can send a primitive oppos...
